Bare. Intimate. Vulnerable. Beautiful. This is the mission of Lyre. This new duo, formed by some of the mad funk and soul scientists behind Brisbane band His Merry Men, play songs of love, loss and life. Award-winning vocalist Megan Crocombe and guitarist Lachlan Bell take all of the prettiness from their jazz backgrounds and the quirkiness from their genre-mash escapades and dispense of their aggression to produce subtle, organic folk music.
Megan Crocombe has won the James Morrison Generations in Jazz Vocalist award for 2011 and thrives in this exposed setting. Her vocals soar over the dreamy guitar and ukulele sounds laid down by up-and-coming guitarist Lachlan Bell. Lyre take their cues from the world around them, with both natural and industrialised sounds pervading their soon-to-be-released debut EP. From bird song to car engines, from earthy acoustic tones to electrified, effected landscapes, Lyre are set to take you on an inimitable journey.
